Dog Name: Balto III
Number: 512
Age: 2 Years (DoB 12/2010 est.) Sex: Male
Coat: Light Red & White
Eyes: Amber

Balto was picked up as a stray by a shelter; no one came forward to claim him so he has come to SHRF to find a new, loving, forever home.

When you are a two-year-old boy like Balto it's tough to decide whether you would rather be outside roughhousing with your foster sisters or sitting on the sofa getting your belly rubbed. Everything is just so much fun! Balto is a wonderful combination of energy, mischievousness, and affection.

Since being in his foster home, Balto has made great improvement in his house manners, but will need continued firm guidance and training in this regard. He has done well with housebreaking; however, he still needs reminders to go out during the day. He is very affectionate and eager to please, but an obedience course may be in order to help keep this headstrong young Husky in check.

Balto can be very excitable, especially when there is food involved, and therefore he would not be appropriate in a home with small children. He will counter surf if given the opportunity and feeding him can be a challenge because he gets so excited at meal times. The way Balto wolfs down his food makes us think he probably went without or had to compete for food at some period of his life. He is used to eating and sleeping in his crate but since he has shown himself to not be destructive he really does not need it. Otherwise has the run of the house and yard.

Balto loves his walks and does well on a leash as long as there is not a squirrel or cat in sight. He enjoys being out in the yard, but only as long as his human is in sight. He loves playing with other dogs but has been untested with cats so caution is advised.

Balto is low heartworm positive and will be treated using the "slow kill" method. His adopter will be provided with instructions on this method as well as Heartworm medication.

Other than the Heartworm issue, Balto is healthy, neutered, microchipped and up-to date with all his shots. His energy and enthusiasm is contagious so add some spice to your life, fill out an adoption application at the upper left corner of this page, today.
