Dog Name: Astrid
Number: 526
Age: 3 Years (DoB 7/2010 est.) Sex: Female
Coat: Black and White
Eyes: Brown
Intake: 6./26/2013

Astrid is a beautiful young adult girl who is getting a second chance at happiness thanks to the extraordinary care provided by the shelter from which we pulled her. She was treated there with a month and a half of intense nursing for a horrible case of demodectic mange and released by her tearful caregivers to SHRF in perfect health, cured and looking more beautiful than ever.

She has wonderfully dark brown eyes, too often overlooked in any list of Husky adopter preferences. They give her a look of warmth, depth-of-soul and intelligence that you just don’t get from the more mischievous looking blue eyes.

Astrid is a very well mannered little lady, no begging or counter surfing for her; she is watching her girlish figure. However, she enjoys a refreshing semi-swim in her water dish so a fluffy towel nearby is probably a good idea. She is a Princess in the car and loves her kennel for a quiet retreat space or a snooze during the day.

She is completely housebroken and crate trained, although, since she is not destructive when left alone, we have not found it necessary to continue using her crate. Astrid LOVES her toys, loves to play, and LOVES to snuggle! She will get on the sofa uninvited but then we did say she is a bit of a Princess. Her leash skills do need some work, however she responds quickly and willingly to correction and she knows commands such as sit, paw, speak, and shake.

Astrid is incredibly well socialized, not shy, timid or aggressive, though she will stand up for herself with other dogs, if threatened. She is such an amazing, sweet girl with lots of puppy energy along with the uncommon mix of polite manners. She is fantastic with teens and seems drawn to shy quiet young girls. Astrid would do wonderful as an addition to a family with young children, older children, or other dogs. She would also be an amazing companion dog for a single doting owner as she has a calm, balanced spirit and so much love to offer. Cats, however, are probably best avoided.

Astrid is healthy, spayed, up-to-date on shots, Heartworm negative and microchipped. If you would like to bring warmth and contentment into your otherwise humdrum life, give Astrid a chance at a loving forever home. You can’t go wrong.
