Siberians in Florida you say??!! Its too hot! - How can they survive? - You must have to shave them in that heat! As a rescue organization, if we had a dollar for every Siberian Husky living and surviving in Florida we would not need to ask for donations to exist. We would be rich! Here in Florida the heat and humidity may be unbearable at times and a Sibe, if left outdoors, can become overheated in a matter of minutes. Hey, if its too hot for you it is DEFINITELY too hot for your fur baby! At this time, I would like to dispel the myth that shaving your Siberian helps him/her better cope with the Florida heat. This is absolutely FALSE. A Siberian Husky has a double coat that protects it against becoming overheated, sunburned or suffer from heat stroke. It actually it is DANGEROUS for you to shave a Siberian Husky and leave it outside as it can suffer from the above mentioned factors and also possibly die. Some Siberians will go sunbathe themselves daily. My fur babies will lie outside on the slate stones for hours sunbathing in the backyard. Of course, they have their puppy pool and dog door to come in to the AC in the house at anytime so that helps..lol. In Florida, a Siberian is not a 24/7 outside dog. These furballs should be kept inside in the air conditioning, especially mid day when it is the hottest. If your Siberian can not be trusted alone in the house(Ha Ha) a crate will suffice and keep your Siberian safe and cool. Siberians are escape artists by nature. If left outside alone in the heat, they will dig or jump their way out of your yard to find a nice cool pool to jump in or try and invite themselves into someone's home for AC. Our rescue Siberians have great ways to cool off in the state of Florida, just check out the pictures below if you feel Sibes can not keep "COOL" in this state!
