Dog Name: Sage
Number: 457
Age: 4 Years (DoB 10/2007 est.) Sex: Female
Coat: Red & White
Eyes: One Brown, One Parti Eye

Sage is a wonderfully sweet, four-year-old female who is looking for the family she never had. She was exiled to the back yard when her young owner left home and she spent the last couple of years neglected and ignored. When first meeting Sage, it is immediately apparent that she is gentle and friendly. She loves to meet new people but does not jump or get overly excited.

For having lived most of her life outdoors, Sage does amazingly well in the house. Possibly she spent her early years indoors as she is housebroken and prefers to stay inside. She is crate trained and knows what "go to your room" means. However, she is very well behaved and does not need to be crated while her humans are away. Sage loves to play with toys and if she finds something on the floor that looks like a toy she will claim it as hers. Since she chews and eats stuffed toys it is best to avoid those and give her something more difficult to tear apart. Her favorites are the Air Kong squeaker toys and elk antlers. Sage responds well to correction and is food motivated. She does know to sit, down, stay, come, off. She also enjoys playing in the water, running in the yard with her foster sisters and foster brother.

Sage loves walks and does well on lead. She will spend time outside in the yard, but prefers to stay close to her humans, probably as the result of being left alone outside so long. Sage is presently in a foster home with two other female Huskies and one male Husky and has been doing well. She respects the alpha female and will not challenge her, but we believe she would prefer to be the alpha of the house. She does have an unhealthy interest in cats and is not small dog friendly. Sage does not like other dogs in her face.

Sage came to our rescue heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment. You may notice her ear tips are a bit ragged which we believe is the result of being gnawed at by insects. Such is the fate of being kept outdoors 24/7. Even through all of this, Sage has not lost her love for people. She is a very loyal Husky and affectionate with those she meets.

Sage is otherwise healthy, spayed, microchipped and up-to-date with all her shots. She deserves better than she has had so far so please consider giving Sage the home she deserves by filling out an adoption application at the upper left corner of this page, today.
